
Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Dr. Sifi Gharib, Visits the Algerian Qatari Steel Complex
The Algerian Qatari Steel Complex had the honor, on Thursday, January
16, 2025, of receiving His Excellency the Minister of Industry and
Pharmaceutical Production, Dr. Sifi Gharib, on a working visit to the company.
He was accompanied by the Governor of Jijel Province and several national and
local dignitaries. The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Adel Khaman, Chairman and
CEO of the National Iron Industry Company, Mr. Youssef Ahmed Al-Muhannadi,
General Manager of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company, Mr. Sofiane Chaib Setti,
Deputy General Manager of the company, and the company’s management team.
During his
welcoming speech, the General Manager of the company reviewed its journey since
its establishment, providing a comprehensive overview of its major achievements
in 2024. He also highlighted the vital role played by "AQS" in
bolstering the national economy and achieving self-sufficiency in iron and
steel production.
The Deputy
General Manager delivered a detailed presentation on the company’s activities
and achievements since it began operations, emphasizing its high-quality
products and the numerous international quality certifications it has obtained,
including ZETOM, KIWA, and AVIZ TEHNIC, with the most recent being the ISO
50001 energy management certification. These certifications have positioned the
company as the top choice in various markets, reflecting its commitment to
providing products that meet global standards. He noted that the company
achieved a turnover of 138.5 billion Algerian dinars (equivalent to $1.035
billion) in 2024, demonstrating significant growth in its industrial and
commercial performance.
As part of its
future expansion plans, the measures currently being implemented for the second
phase of the plant expansion project were highlighted. This phase aims to
increase the plant’s total production capacity to 4 million tons annually,
marking a significant step towards enhancing production capabilities and
expanding into regional and international markets.
For his part,
the Minister affirmed the government’s ongoing support for the company and its
commitment to advancing the implementation of the project’s second phase. His
Excellency noted that the company represents a successful model of bilateral
partnership between Algeria and Qatar, reflecting the fruitful cooperation
between the two brotherly nations.
The visit also
featured a gesture of appreciation, with the Minister being honored by the
Chairman and CEO of the National Iron Industry Company and the General Manager
of the Algerian Qatari Steel Company, underscoring the strong partnership and
the ministry’s continuous support.
The visit
concluded with the company’s management expressing their gratitude for this
visit, which represents an additional step towards strengthening cooperation
and partnership for a promising industrial future.
