Continuous Casting Incident Simulation: Strengthening the Safety Culture at Algerian Qatari Steel
A technical malfunction at the continuous casting tundish resulted in a leakage of molten metal outside the system, causing, according to the simulation scenario, severe burn injuries to two operators. This exercise was conducted as part of an emergency drill designed by the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Department, in coordination with Civil Protection units, at Melting Unit No. 01.
The simulation was carried out under conditions closely replicating an industrial environment, with the aim of testing team responsiveness, the effectiveness of emergency response procedures, and coordination among all involved parties, while enhancing overall on-site operational readiness.
This drill marks the conclusion of Algerian Qatari Steel’s 2023 simulation program, implemented as part of its comprehensive strategy to strengthen the safety culture and uphold the highest prevention standards across the Bellara complex.
